Latin American Markets Mostly Lower; Pressured By Energy, Financial Stocks

Latin Market markets are mostly lower today, with the Merval Buenos Aires one of the few exceptions, amid declines among energy producers. Financial stocks also are mostly lower while consumer stocks are showing up a bit higher.

Here's where the regional markets stand today:

- Ibovespa down 1,274 (-2.1%) to 60,636.

- IPC (Mexico City) has lost earlier gains and is now down around 28.6 points (-0.1%) to 40,528.

- Santiago Index IPSA down 20.57 (-0.5%) to 4,190.5

- Merval Buenos Aires up 27.10 (+1.1%) to 2,558.85.

In ADR news, NII Holdings Inc. ( NIHD ) is down 5% today with the Latin American mobile-phone carrier launching its 3G, or third-generation, mobile-phone network in Mexico. The move put NIHD in direct competition with America Movil SAB dominates, majority-owned by Carlos Slim, the world's richest man.
