Latin American Markets Mixed in Afternoon Trade as Exchanges in Mexico, Chile Resist Dip by Commodities

Latin American stocks are mixed, with market guages for the Mexico City and Santiago exhanges holding on to small gains while the Ibovespa index in Brazil is lower with a fall in crude oil and precious-metal prices.

Here's where the major regional market guages stand this afternoon:

- Ibovespa down 155.97 (-0.29%) at 53,649.41

- IPC (Mexico City) up 99.16 (+0.25%) at 39,256.67

- Santiago Index IPSA up 4.97 (+0.11%) at 4,331.51

- Merval Buenos Aires down 7.70 (-0.34%) at 2,280.14

In company news, U.S.-listed shares of Embraer SA ( ERJ ) are down about 0.9% with the Brazilian aircraft company announcing a deal with Boeing ( BA ) to collaborate on the KC-390 aircraft program.

Under this agreement, the companies will share some specific technical knowledge and evaluate markets where they could combine sales efforts for the medium-lift military transport. The KC-390 collaboration is part of a broader agreement that BA and EJR signed in April.

Also, Solazyme Inc. ( SZYM ) shares are off about 5% today with the specialty chemicals company breaking ground on a renewable-oil production facility adjacent to Bunge Ltd's ( BG ) Moema sugarcane mill in Brazil. BG shares are up about 1.2% this afternoon.
