Latin American Markets Mixed; Gains for Financial, Consumer Stocks Balance Resource Declines; Vale Hits Yr Lows

Latin American markets are mixed today with gains for financial and consumer stocks largely offsetting declines for shares of energy and mining companies.

Here's where the regional markets stand this afternoon:

- Ibovespa up 342.62 (+0.6%) to 58,454.08.

- IPC (Mexico City) down 51.77 (-0.1%) to 39,921.08.

- Santiago Index IPSA down 0.96 (-0.02%) to 4,155.41.

- Merval Buenos Aires down 15.10 (-0.6%) to 2,445.62.

In company news, Brazilian miner Vale SA ( VALE ) has lifted a declaration of force majeure at its Carborough Downs coking coal mine in Australia, according to regulatory documents filed last night. A May 31 gas leak forced the mine's closure. VALE ADRs are down about 0.7% and have hit year lows today.
