Largest option buying in equities so far

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the individual equity names with the most call and put buying on optionMONSTER's ActionTracker data system.


BP (BP): An investor purchased about 5,800 April 41 puts for $0.45, positioning for lower prices. Volume was more than triple open interest in the strike. BP rose 0.19 percent to $47.63.

Barrick Gold (ABX): More than 9,000 March 49 calls were bought for $1.07 as investors look for higher prices. ABX rose 1.42 percent to 49.20.

Citigroup (C): More than 4,400 March 31 puts were bought for $0.30 as traders sought protection against the shares dropping. C rose 1.25 percent to $33.34.

Gilead Sciences (GILD): More than 14,000 April 47 calls were purchased for about $2.14 and an equal number of April 50 calls were sold for about $1. Known as a bullish call spread, it cost about $1.14 and has the potential to triple their money on if the stock goes to $50. GILD rose 2.43 percent to $46.29. (See related story )

General Electric (GE): More than 6,500 January 17.50 puts were bought, mostly for $1.41, as investors look for a pullback or increased volatility. GE rose 0.31 percent to $19.13.
