Largest option buying in equities so far

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the individual equity names with the most call and put buying on optionMONSTER's ActionTracker data system.

Applied Materials (AMAT): More than 35,000 January 12.50 calls were purchased as investors position for upside in the maker of semiconductor gear. AMAT rose 1.79 percent to $10.79.

Bank of America (BAC): Almost 27,000 weekly 9.50 calls expiring tomorrow were purchased, mostly for $0.05, as investors look for the financial giant to climb in the short term. BAC rose 1.72 percent to $9.48.

General Motors (GM): Some 10,000 March 26 calls were purchased, mostly for $1.89, as investors look for the automaker to rally. GM fell 0.69 percent to $25.33.

J.C. Penney (JCP): An investor purchased 12,500 December 24 puts for $2.03 and sold 25,000 December 20 puts for $0.66. Known as a ratio spread, the trade cost $0.71 and will earn a maximum profit of 463 percent if the retailer falls to $20 on expiration. JCP rose 1.58 percent to $24.39.
