• SLIDE SHOW: 10 Best Values in Liberal Arts Colleges

We have dropped Scripps College, in Claremont, Calif., from its number 23 spot in our 2012 ranking of Best Values in Private Liberal Arts Colleges . We took this action after Scripps informed Kiplinger's that the school misreported the average student debt on graduation, one of the criteria we use to rank colleges. Although Scripps acknowledges that the debt figure it provided was lower than the average debt actually owed by graduates, the college says it cannot predict when accurate data will become available.

Kiplinger's rankings rely solely on objective criteria, including average debt on graduation. Because Scripps cannot provide accurate data on this point, we cannot rank the school. We are committed to providing correct information to our readers and to providing a fair representation of college value.
