Japan: Economy contracts in Q3; Prelim GDP -0.9%

FXstreet.com (San Francisco) - Expectations for a contraction in Japanese Gross Domestic Product ( GDP ) Annualized for Q3 were realized on Monday, reported at -3.5% (cons. -3.4%), while Prelim GDP QoQ for the same period was reported at -0.9% (-0.9%), according to the Cabinet Office. Bloomberg is calling this the worst GDP print since the earthquake and tsunami of 2011. Weighing on the economy were exports, consumption and private capital expenditures, while government expenditures and inventories supported.
