(RTTNews.com) - Chip maker giant Intel Corp. ( INTC ) is now seeking partners to help its planned Web-based television service, media reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the situation.
The company, which is shifting strategy for its planned project, has been testing a service that combines both live and on-demand TV, along with its own software and set-top box.
Santa Clara, California-based Intel needs a partner with a base of Internet subscribers or rights to films and television shows, the reports said. Intel is yet to announce any deals with content providers.
Under the company's new Chief Executive Officer Brian Krzanich, Intel's TV efforts have slowed, as he has emphasized getting Intel chips into mobile devices. It is thought that the company may miss its launch schedule of starting service by year-end in some U.S. markets.
As per reports, potential partners in talks include online retailer Amazon.com Inc., and TV set maker Samsung Electronics Co
Intel shares closed Thursday's trading at $23.41, down $0.29 or 1.22 percent.
