Infographic: Women more likely than men to break up over money

By CreditCards.com February 01, 2013, 01:00:00 AM EDT

Poor money management skills and heavy debt are romance-ruiners, especially for women, a CreditCards.com love and money survey has found.

The scientific survey polled 1,005 adults in mid-January 2013. Overall, respondents said sharing the same attitudes about money is the most important factor in a successful relationship.  About 60 percent said they'd have less trust in a romantic partner who was in serious debt.

When it came to ending a relationship, however, women say they'll be quicker to brush off a beau than men are when it comes to financial issues. For example, 57 percent of women (compared with 48 percent of men) say a partner with debt is a turnoff. The gender divide is even more apparent when it comes to secret credit card debt. Seventy percent of women would end a relationship over secret debt, compared to 54 percent of men.
