Infographic: Post-recession shifts in credit scores

Americans' post-recession use of credit is shown in the shift in our credit scores, according to a score distribution analysis by FICO, the most widely used score. Compared to 2008, when the recession was at its peak, there are fewer people clustered at the ends of the scale -- very good and very bad credit -- and more people in the middle. The number of people with very bad credit scores (300-499) is the lowest percentage since 2006, FICO reports, possibly because lenders have written off a lot of bad debt and closed the riskiest accounts.
