Tuesday headlines include: strong earnings from Chipotle, subscriber losses at Comcast, a soft quarter from Travelers, United Technologies raising its guidance and another big purchase for Yahoo.

Chipotle

Burrito chain Chipotle Mexican Grill ( CMG ) said Monday that it earned $3.50 per share in the second quarter. Revenue was $1.05 billion. Analysts had expected the company to earn $3.04 per share on $989.7 million. The company said it expects full-year same-store sales growth to be in the mid teens. The company also expects to open between 180 and 195 new stores this year. Chipotle said traffic increased at existing stores during the quarter, even as the company increased prices to compensate for a price increase.

Comcast

Cable giant Comcast ( CMCSA ) said Tuesday that it earned 76 cents per share in the second quarter on $16.84 billion in revenue. Analysts had expected 72 cents per share on $16.95 billion in revenue. The company said its weak revenue was partly due to video subscriber losses, which were 144,000 during the quarter, compared to analyst estimates for 123,000.

Travelers

Insurer Travelers ( TRV ) said Tuesday that it earned $1.95 per share in the second quarter, on operating earnings of $1.93 per share. Analysts had expected the company to earn $2.07 per share. The property and casualty insurance industry had more than $1 billion in catastrophe claims in June alone.

United Technologies

Industrial conglomerate United Technologies ( UTX ) said Tuesday that it earned $1.84 per share from continuing operations in the second quarter, compared to estimates for $1.70 per share. For the full year, the company said it now expects to earn $6.75 to $6.85 per share, compared to a previous estimate for $6.65 to $6.85 per share.

Yahoo

Internet portal Yahoo! ( YHOO )  is making another purchase. The company, which has been on a buying spree recently, is reportedly paying more than $300 million for Flurry Inc., which analyzes data from smartphone users.
