Welcome to our daily roundup of top insider trades. Here's a look at the most significant inside sales and purchases filed with the SEC on Tuesday, June 4, 2013.

Purchases: Daniel Goodwin, a Director and former Chairman of the real estate investment trust Inland Real Estate Corporation ( IRC ), bought 100,000 shares of company stock for $1,060,000. The company, which is based in Oak Brook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, owns and operates neighborhood, community, and single tenant retail centers. On June 3, the company announced the completion of its acquisition of the New York State Teachers' Retirement System 50% stake in the IN Retail Fund, LLC joint venture entity. The deal, for $121 million, gives Inland Real Estate 100% ownership of outstanding membership interests in IN Retail. The stock's price is down 10.13% this month, though it has still managed gains of 21.72% year-to-date and 24.69% since this time last year.

David Weinreb, the CEO of master planned communities developer and operator Howard Hughes Corporation ( HHC ), bought 10,000 shares of company stock for $995,634. The Dallas-based company began as a tool company founded by eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes, Sr. and was ceded to his eccentric billionaire son Howard Hughes Jr. and was renamed Summa Corp. When Hughes died in 1976, most of the company was sold off to the Rouse Company. In 2010, it became a separate company again. The company's newest development is a master planned community called Ward Village in Honolulu, Hawaii's Kakaako neighborhood. The first phase will include three condo towers with 900 residential units. The company's stock price has increased by 3.35% within the last month, and it has gained 37.17% YTD, and 71.57% since this time last year.

Bernard Korman, a Director of the diversified, close-ended investment company New America High Income Fund ( HYB ), bought 49,400 shares of company stock for $498,812. The fund mostly invests in fixed-maturity, high-yield corporate debt securities that are rated as less than investment-grade. In the last month, the stock's price has seen a 3.99% decline; it is down 3.35% YTD and 2.13% since this time last year.

Sales: Charlestone Venture Holdings sold 747,631 shares of online foreign exchange trading provider FXCM ( FXCM ) for $10,466,834. FXCM offers its customers access to global OTC markets and functions under an agency model, wherein customers make trades on the prices quoted by a foreign exchange maker and the company acts as a credit intermediary, entering into offsetting trades with both the customers and the FX maker. The stock's price has managed to increase 2.8% in the last month, with gains of 38.73% YTD and 36.96% since this time last year.

John Mackey, the CEO of natural and organic supermarket company Whole Foods ( WFM ), sold 200,000 shares of company stock for $10,459,700. The company saw a major uptick in stock value on May 7 with the announcement of strong Q1 earnings and sales; the price is up 10.55% to $50.56 since May 7. Those gains have been, for the most part, held, though the stock's price has declined 3.72% since May 30. The stock price is up 11.32% YTD and 14.8% since this time last year.

An important note from Jonathan Moreland, founder of Insider Insights :

In a victory for common sense, it has been proven profitable -- by both academic studies and (more importantly) the experience of your fellow professional investors -- to monitor the trading behavior of company executives, directors, and large shareholders in the stocks of firms of which they're registered as "insiders."

Please note, however, that the lists above are strictly factual; they are not buy and sell recommendations. Dollar value is only one metric to assess the importance of an insider transaction, and, frankly, often not even the most important metric that determines if an insider transaction is significant.

At InsiderInsights.com, we find new investment ideas just about every day using these and more intricate insider screens to determine where we should focus our subsequent fundamental and technical analysis. And while stocks don't (or shouldn't) move up or down based on insider activity alone, insiders tend to be good indicators of when real stock-moving events like earnings surprises, corporate actions, and new products may be in the offing.
