Healthways ( HWAY ), the well-being enhancement company, and statistical research services provider Gallup recently announced the results of the monthly Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index ("WBI") for November 2011. The overarching WBI measure remained stagnant at a score of 65.8.

The Life Evaluation Index moved up to 47.7 from 46.8 in October. About 3.9% of Americans reported they were suffering while 51.6% stated they were thriving, which represents the high point in the past 4 months.

The Healthy Behaviors Index dropped to 62.6, which is the lowest score for the month of November since November 2008. This score shows a change in healthy behavior as the holiday season approaches. The percentage of participants who exercised for half and hour, for a minimum of 3 days in the prior week, fell to 49.8%, down 2.4% from October. The proportion of Americans who consumed a minimum of 5 servings of vegetables and fruits, for a minimum of 4 days in the prior week, fell to 54.7%.

The Basic Access Index did not fare well for the third consecutive month and recorded a score of 81.7. The proportion of Americans who reported that they could comfortably procure fresh vegetables and fruits stood at 90.7%.

Among the other indices, the Work Environment Index dropped marginally to 47.2 in November. The drop was mainly on account of a fall in working relations with the boss. The Physical Health Index stood at 76.6 in November, on account of seasonal patterns. Respondents with flu or a cold went up to 2.6% and 8.4%, respectively.

The Emotional Health Index stood at 79 for November 2011, with 59.1% of Americans saying that they were free from stress for a good part of the previous day
