Healthcare Stocks Still Higher Near Closing Bell; Regado Biosciences Jumps Nearly 20% in Market Debut

Healthcare stocks are mostly higher with the NYSE Healthcare Sector Index gaining 0.3% and shares of healthcare companies in the S&P 500 climbing 0.5% as a group.

In company news, Regado Biosciences Inc. ( RGDO ) is up 18.8% at $4.75 a share in its market debut after earlier pricing an initial public offering of 10.7 million shares at $4 apiece.

The IPO for the cardiovascular treatment company differed significantly from its original plans. The company in early May disclosed plans to sell around 5 million shares at $14 to $16 each; that was later revised to 8.4 shares priced at $5 apiece.

Share action for the Nasdaq Capital Markets-listed stock was caught up in the three-hour trading halt for the Nasdaq exchange, with just over 212,000 shares changing hands through mid-day before trading was suspended.

In other sector news,

(+) CYTK, Phase II trial data find its tirasemtiv drug candidate is well-tolerated in patients with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.

(+) ONXX, Reportedly agrees to give potential buyers, including Amgen ( AMGN ), access to trial data for its new cancer drug, removing a key hurdle that's been holding up deal talks.
