PARIS--European aircraft manufacturer Airbus (AIR.FR) Wednesday said Hawaiian Airlines ordered six A330-800neo aircraft.

The airline is the first U.S. airline to make an order for the new version of the classic A330 aircraft, Airbus said.

The A330-800neo, which made its debut last week at the Farnborough Air Show, sells at a list price of $241.7 million, according to Justin Dubon, a spokesman for Airbus. However, aircraft manufacturers typically provide discounts for large orders.

The A330-neo model is a revamped and more fuel-efficient version of the A330 and incorporates the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, aerodynamic enhancements, fuel savings and additional cabin features.

The new aircraft is attractive as it is more fuel-efficient, has a longer range and shares features with older version of the A330 the company already operates, said Hawaiian Airlines Chief Executive Mark Dunkerley.
