Harris Corp.
(
HRS
) unveils Internet Protocol-based, air traffic control (ATC)
voice communications system capable of supporting 1 to 800-plus
controller positions.
The new ATC system, which has been deployed in more than 50
countries, allows Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system via
Harris' VCS21 technology. Consequently, the introduction of ATC
system will gradually sideline the existing Time-Division
Multiplexing communications hardware with standards-based,
VoIP-enabled voice nodes.
VCS21 technology supporting the U.S. NextGen and Single
European Sky ATM Research features and functions, fully
integrates ATC voice functions and other protocols, thereby
offering complete voice solution as per industry standards.
In 2012, Harris received a 15-year deal worth $291 million
from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The huge contract
will use the company's VCS21 technology, thereby controlling
growing network traffic by offering secure, digital
communications for pilots, controllers and ground personnel.
Harris currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
