Woman Is Charged With Animal Cruelty

A woman whose 67 cats and dogs were found in filthy conditions was indicted Thursday on animal-cruelty charges, the district attorney's office said.

Prosecutors said Elizabeth Grant, 48 years old, of Jackson Heights, had 55 cats, 12 dogs and two turtles. The animals were emaciated and had skin diseases, prosecutors said.

Her attorney said Ms. Grant pleaded not guilty and that she "dearly loved these animals."
