Going long Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM), Altria (NY: MO) puts


At 10:19 a.m. EST, an Altria Group Inc. (NYSE: MO ) options investor took a bearish stance on the company and boosted later-dated put volume. The investor bought roughly 3,600 out-of-the-money September 19 puts for the ask price of $1.04 per contract. If MO shares close lower than $17.96 at September options expiration, this investor will make money on this long put position.

These puts have an implied volatility of 19%, and are currently trading up seven cents on the day.

MO shares have dropped 10 cents to $20.16 so far on the day. The company did not announce any news today. Yesterday, MO increased its quarterly dividend by one cent to 35 cents (a 2.9% rise).

Front-month action in Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM ) lit up around 9:58 a.m. EST, thanks to an investor who appears to be bearish on the wireless communications circuit producer. One large block of 4,600 out-of-the-money March 34 puts hit the tape at the ask price of 34 cents , suggesting one investor is expecting around 9% of downside in the near-term (the investor will make money if QCOM shares close lower than $33.64 at March expiration in 22 days).

Implied volatility of these puts is 35%, and the stock is currently trading down 97 cents to $36.90 a share. QCOM did not announce any news this morning.
