Today's calendar is relatively light, with a few earnings and some European economic numbers.

Germany reports both third-quarter gross domestic product and its Ifo survey of business confidence before the U.S. market opens. Those could have some impact on sentiment early in the session.

Retail names Ann, Foot Locker, and PetSmart release quarterly results this morning.

Next week has a few important events but is shortened by the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday. Monday's only economic release is pending home sales.

Tuesday brings housing starts, consumer confidence, and the Case-Shiller index of home prices. Tiffany, Children's Place, JA Solar, and LDK Solar report earnings in the morning, followed by Hewlett-Packard and TiVo in the afternoon.

Wednesday features durable-goods orders, initial jobless claims (moved forward one day), and the Chicago purchasing managers index.

The market reopens for a half-day on Friday.
