GE Aviation, a division of General Electric Company ( GE ), recently opened a new 138,000-square feet facility on the campus of the University of Dayton, which represents a $53 million investment in the region

The Electrical Power Integrated Systems Center is expected to cater to several markets including end-to-end electrical power starter and generation, conversion, distribution, and load technologies for next-generation civil and military aerospace applications.

The center's proximity to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the University of Dayton Research Institute will provide significant support to the Air Force Research Laboratories. This center is expected to generate growth for the local economy, create employment opportunities and boost joint research on the University campus.

In the past two years, General Electric has increased its employment in Ohio by 7% and aims to continue to grow its investments in this region. Going forward, this partnership with the University of Dayton is also expected to create long-term growth opportunities for the company. The center will facilitate joint research with its customers while decreasing system development time and improving on-time delivery of new aircrafts.

The electrical power business of General Electric is on track to double in 2014 from that of 2009 driven by increased demand for more power on aircrafts. This move by General Electric is in line with its strategy to invest and develop advanced technologies that are flexible and suited to customers' requirements.

General Electric, the parent company of GE Aviation, is one of the largest and most diversified technology and financial services corporations in the world with products and services ranging from aircraft engines, power generation, water processing, and security technology to medical imaging, business and consumer financing, media content, and industrial products.
