Forex Flash: The likelihood of a Greek exit has decreased markedly - Nomura

By FXstreet.com June 18, 2012, 04:41:00 AM EDT

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Nomura's research unit believes that "it remains unclear at present if a new government can be formed among the former coalition parties. However, Nomura's European equity strategy team estimates a 60% probability of a coalition government if ND is the leading party, and in such a case, that the likelihood of Greece withdrawing from the euro is 5%... we think the likelihood of a Greek exit has decreased markedly."

The report from the Japanese bank came out shortly after the election results gave a majority to tha pro-bailout parties and therefore Nomura adds "although Greece and the Troika could go back and forth over austerity measures, Greece has little leeway in terms of funds, so we think the country is unlikely to pursue a course that would lead to support being withdrawn."
