Earnings reports from major financial companies will dominate
the calendar early this week, with prospects for heavier trading
volume now that the World Cup has ended.
Citigroup is the big name reporting this morning. JP Morgan and
Goldman Sachs follow tomorrow morning, as well as Johnson &
Johnson, with Intel, Yahoo, CSX, Interactive Brokers, and Cintas
announcing results in the afternoon.
Tomorrow's agenda also includes monthly retail sales, Germany's Zew
survey of economic sentiment, and the New York Federal Reserve's
Empire manufacturing index. Chinese economic-growth and
industrial-production numbers are released in the evening.
Wednesday morning features quarterly results from Bank of America,
PNC Financial, U.S. Bancorp, and Abbott Laboratories. Mortgage
applications, the NAHB housing-market index and the Fed's Beige
Book survey of economic conditions come out as well. eBay, Yum
Brands, and SanDisk report in the afternoon.
Thursday brings jobless claims, housing starts, building permits
and the Philadelphia Fed's regional activity index. Morgan Stanley,
UnitedHealth, Mattel, Baxter, Danaher, Philip Morris, and Taiwan
Semiconductor report in the morning. Google, IBM, Seagate
Technologies, and Capital follow after the closing bell.
The week concludes Friday morning with results from General
Electric, Honeywell, and Interpublic Group. The University of
Michigan's consumer sentiment report is the main economic item.
