Event calendar remains quiet

The event calendar is virtually empty today and remains relatively quiet next week.

The main items are earnings from companies like Petrobras, Sotheby's and Magnum Hunter. Chinese inflation data also comes out in the evening.

Turkey also has elections scheduled for Sunday, although no major changes are expected.
Monday brings earnings from Priceline.com, Sysco, Dean Foods and Kandi Technologies before the opening bell. Caesars Entertainment and Rackspace follow in the afternoon.
Tuesday's agenda brings Germany's Zew survey of economic sentiment, plus with earnings after the close from JDS Uniphase, Cree and King Digital.

Wednesday is more active, starting early with industrial-production numbers from China and Germany. United States retail-sales data follows, along with results from Deere and Macy's in the morning and Cisco Systems and NetApp after the bell.

Thursday features European economic growth and initial jobless claims. Wal-Mart Stores, Kohl's, Applied Materials, Autodesk, Agilent Technology, Sina and Nordstrom report as well.

The week concludes Friday morning with the New York Federal Reserve's Empire Manufacturing gauge, the University of Michigan's consumer-sentiment report and the Labor Department's producer-price index.  Estee Lauder will also release its numbers.
