European Traders Trim Gains on Bearish US Economic News, Futures Higher, Oil and Copper Rise

Gloomy economic news from the United States trimmed gains for European markets at the start of a new month of trading. The pace of growth in the U.S. manufacturing sector unexpectedly slowed in February, with the Institute for Supply Management saying its index of national factory activity fell to 52.4 from 54.1 the month before. That, coupled with the testimony of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke before Congress, corraled the stampeding bulls.

In European ADR action, Barclays PLC ( BCS ) is up 2.70% to $15.99. Carnival PLC ( CUK ) has gained 2.83% to $30.54 from very favorable publicity after the market was seen to have overreacted to the cruise ship grounding. Sanofi ( SNY ) is higher by 2.62% to $38.00. UBS ( UBS ) is down 0.93% to $13.90.
