European Stocks Gain On China Data, M&A

European bourses rose amid encouraging data from China and a flurry of deals in Europe.

China's industrial production jumped 10.3% in October from a year earlier to exceed expectations for a 10% gain, according to a Bloomberg survey. Meanwhile inflation was a less-than-forecast 3.2% and producer prices fell 1.5%.

In ADR news, Grifols SA ( GRFS ) agreed to buy Novartis' ( NVS ) blood-transfusion diagnostics unit for $1.68 billion, completing the deal in the first half of 2014.

Shire (SHPGY) will buy ViroPharma ( VPHM ) for about $4.2 billion, or $50 a share in cash.

BT Group ( BT ) won the rights to broadcast the UEFA tournaments from 2015 for $1.4 billion.

The FTSE-100 was last up 0.3% at 6,728.37, the DAX up 0.33% at 9,107.86 and the CAC-40 up 0.7% at 4,290.14.
