European stocks are just lower as investors await the outcome of the Federal Open Market Committee meeting, which ends later Wednesday.

Economists generally expect the FOMC to leave policy unchanged for now but suggest that policy could tighten if economic data continue to improve.

In ADR news, Alcatel Lucent ( ALU ) plans to sell assets and save another 1 billion euros in fixed costs by 2015 to stem losses. After 2015, ALU says it will look to cut its debt by 2 billion euros by selling shares on the stock market or through further asset sales

The FTSE-100 was last down 0.4% at 6,348.76, the DAX down 0.39% at 8,197.33 and the CAC-40 down 0.55% at 3,839.34.
