Energy Stocks Mostly Up as Crude Oil, Natural Gas Bounce Back From Recent Declines; Focus On PVR, Hess

Energy stocks are higher today with the NYSE Energy Sector Index rising 0.5% while shares of energy companies in the S&P 500 also are up about 0.5% as a group. Crude oil for October delivery is up 52 cents at $108.17 per barrel. October natural gas is up 7 cents to $3.65 per 1 million BTU.

In company news, PVR Partners LP ( PVR ) is fluctuating after saying it has entered into a definitive agreement to build, own and operate a natural gas trunkline for Hess Corp ( HES ), which is up 1.3% at near $75.80 a share.

The new, 45-mile pipeline will also include associated gathering pipelines and facilities servicing Hess's lean gas production in the Utica Shale formation in eastern Ohio.

In other sector news,

(+) HERO, (+0.9%) Cairn India Ltd will pay approximately $36.6 million to use its Hercules Triumph Jackup Rig for 110 days starting next month.

(-) KMI, (-0.9%) Gives back earlier advance that followed the company and Valero ( VLO ) saying their Parkway Pipeline joint venture connecting refineries in Louisiana to a hub in Mississippi is completed. VLO is up 2%.
