Energy Stocks Higher Again Today; Penn Virginia Shares Fluctuating After Wrapping Offerings

Energy stocks are up strongly again today, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index rising about 1.1% and the S&P Energy Index climbing about 0.9%. Crude oil for November delivery is down 30 cents to $91.79 a barrel. November natural gas is is up a penny at $3.45 per 1 million BTU.

In company news, Penn Virginia Corporation ( PVA ) shares have fluctuated between a day high $5.09 and a day low $4.97 with the oil and gas company closing today on concurrent public offerings of 8 million shares of common stock and 1.15 million depositary shares, each representing a fractional ownership interest in a share of convertible perpetual preferred stock.

Penn Virginia has granted the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to 1.2 million additional shares of common stock to cover any overallotments.
