Energy Currents: Crude Easing from Monday Gains; Natural Gas at New Contract Low

By
A A A

Crude oil is lower this morning after gaining yesterday, fueled by the surge in global stock markets, weakness in the US Dollar and better than expected US economic data. Some traders also indicated that there was a sense of relief that Hurricane Irene did not cause as much damage as initially expected.

October natural gas remains at a new contract low this morning, pressured by reduced demand prospects in the Northeast following Hurricane Irene and moderating weather forecasts.

At 8:15 a.m. ET

Oct WTI Crude ( NY ) $86.54 -0.73

Oct Brent Crude ( ICE ) $111.73 -0.15

Oct Natural Gas ( NY ) $3.808 -0.022
