This week's calendar is relatively quiet, with most of the big news coming from overseas. There's also a heavy focus on energy-sector and media earnings.

Today, for instance, features the the Eurozone's Sentix sentiment index early in the session and Chinese service-sector data in the evening. Michael Kors and Realogy report earnings before the opening bell. American International Group, Avis Budget, Pioneer Natural Resources, Marathon Oil, and GT Advanced Technologies are on the afternoon roster.

Tuesday brings the Institute for Supply Management's key service-sector index, factory orders, and European retail sales. CVS Caremark, Emerson Electric and Archer-Daniels Midland announce results before the opening bell. Walt Disney, First Solar, EOG Resources, and Zillow follow after the closing bell.

Wednesday brings German weekly mortgage applications and crude-oil inventories. Chesapeake Energy, Denbury Resources, Devon Energy, Time Warner, Viacom, and Molson Coors issue results in the morning. Prudential Financial, Twenty-First Century Fox, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, and Symantec report after the close.

Thursday is the busiest session of the week, with the European Central Bank's interest-rate decision, jobless claims, and monthly same-store sales from select retailers. The pre-market lineup includes Mylan, Melco Crown, Linn Energy, SunEdison, and Rio Tinto. CBS, Nvidia, SolarCity and Monster Beverage step up to the plate after the bell.

The only noteworthy event Friday is earnings from Brazilian energy giant Petrobras.
