Earnings reports will take center stage today in the absence of any large economic releases, barring further geopolitical pressures.

The day's only data headline will come from the Chicago Federal Reserve with its national activity index. Companies announcing quarterly results before the open include Halliburton, Hasbro, SunTrust Banks, and BB&T. Netflix and Texas Instruments follow in the afternoon.

Tomorrow's calendar includes consumer prices, FHFA's housing price index, the Richmond Fed's regional activity index, and existing home sales. Comcast, DuPont, Verizon, United Technologies, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, and Ingersoll-Rand issue report earnings the morning. Apple, Microsoft, Juniper Networks, Xilinx, Broadcom, and Discover Financial issue results after the close.

Wednesday's major quarterly numbers will come from Boeing, Delta Air Lines, Facebook, General Dynamics, PepsiCo, Dow Chemical, AT&T, and Gilead Sciences.

Thursday brings initial jobless claims, the Chicago purchasing managers index and new home sales. Amazon.com, Starbucks, Visa, Caterpillar, American Airlines, Ford, General Motors, Union Pacific, Eli Lilly, and Celgene are among the most significant companies announcing quarterly results.

There are no economic reports Friday morning, but Tyco and Xerox will release their earnings.
