(RTTNews.com) - Non-alcoholic beverage maker Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. ( DPS ) reported higher second-quarter net income of $210 million, or $1.06 a share, versus the prior year's $155 million, or $0.76 a share.

Net sales increased 1% for the quarter to $1.63 billion, from $1.61 billion in the year-ago period, as a sales volume increase, favorable product and package mix and pricing were partially offset by higher discounts and 1 percentage point of unfavorable foreign currency.

The firm still projects full-year 2014 reported net sales to be flat to up 1%. Further, it is raising its guidance, now expecting core EPS to be in the $3.43 to $3.51 range. Dr Pepper Snapple also continues to expect capital spending to be nearly 3% of net sales; and expects to buy back $375 million to $400 million of its common stock.
