Consumer Shares Ending Near Session Highs; Delta Flying High Ahead of Upcoming Addition to S&P 500

Consumer stocks are closing near their best levels of the day with shares of consumer staple companies in the S&P 500 gaining 0.7% while shares of consumer discretionary stocks in the S&P adding 0.9%.

In company news, Delta Airlines ( DAL ) are up 9% at $21.68 a share heading into Monday's close following news the airline will join the S&P 500 Index on Tuesday.

DAL replaces BMC Software, which is being taken private by Bain Capital.

In other sector news,

(+) MNTG, Agrees to a cash-and-stock merger with Eldorado Resorts, with Eldorado buying 5.8 million shares at $5.15 apiece and exchanging remaining MNTG common stock for shares in the combined companies.
