•    Shares of semiconductor stocks got a boost after integrated-circuit manufacturer Linear Technology Corp.'s (NASDAQ: LLTC ) projected that third-quarter revenue would come in above estimates and also raised its quarterly dividend by more than 4%

•    Share prices of internet company Yahoo Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO ) surged after the company's co-founder Mr. Jerry Yang resigned from the services of the company

•    Electronic payment system company Net 1 UEPS Technologies Inc.'s (NASDAQ: UEPS ) said it had won a contract in South Africa. Under the terms of the contract, Net 1 UEPS will provide payment services for social grants

•    According to a Bloomberg report, there is a possibility that government funding to repay school loans may be reduced. Following the report, share prices of all major for-profit educators including Apollo Group (NASDAQ: APOL ), Capella Education (NASDAQ: CPLA ) and DeVry Inc (NYSE: DV ) declined
