Today's calendar is quiet, with the Chicago Federal Reserve's regional activity index as the only item.

The report is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. ET. It's unlikely to affect sentiment but will provide useful clues on the broader economy.

Homebuilder D.R. Horton, power generator NRG Energy, and telecom Vodafone report earnings before the opening bell, while MBIA, Medivation, NQ Mobile, and Sina follow in the evening.

Tomorrow's agenda is more active, with European industrial-production numbers in the morning, followed by mortgage purchase applications and export and import prices. Japan's gross domestic product report comes in the evening.

Canadian Solar and Macy's report tomorrow morning, with tech heavyweights Cisco Systems and NetApp following after the closing bell.
