Canada stocks closed lower on Monday after hitting a 2-year high earlier in the trading session. Most sectors were up with Energy and Metal and Mining leading the broader markets lower.

Stocks were off to the races early in the trading session but wilted with about an hour to go before the close after a statement from Carl Icahn the activist investors that he was cautious on stocks. Stocks immediately turned lower, led down by momentum shares.

Air Canada was the most active stock on the TSX, closing down 3.2% with 5.4 million shares changing hands. There was no fresh stock specific news driving volume.
