Canada Stocks Close Lower; Global PMI Data Improves; Bombardier Most Active

Canadian stock closed lower on Friday, down 24 points, most sectors were higher, but the broader market was led down by Energy along with Metal and Mining.

Manufacturing data that was released on Friday showed a number of economies improving. The Institute for Supply Management ( ISM ) said its index of U.S. factory activity rose to 56.4 last month from 56.2 in September, the best print since April 2011. Economists had expected a reading of 55.

In Canada the manufacturing sector grew at the fastest pace fin 30 months in October, according to the RBC Canadian Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index. The headline number rose to 55.6, up from 54.2 in September.


Bombardier (BBD-B.TO) was the most active stock closing down 3.4% with 18 million shares changing hands. Yesterday Bombardier announced earnings that were worse than expected.
