Canadian stocks close higher on Friday, most sectors where higher led by Metals and Mining along with Energy, but Info Tech capped trading gains.

Stocks were buoyed by a weaker than expected Employment report released in Canada on Friday. Canada's economy lost 45,900 jobs in December and the unemployment rate rose to 7.2 percent from 6.9 percent in a surprising setback that may add pressure on the central bank to consider cutting interest rates. The employment data released by Statistics Canada on Friday was the weakest since March 2013. A reduction in rates helped stocks hit new 2.5 year highs.

ViXS Systems Inc. (VXS.TO) was the most active share on the TSX with no fresh stock specific news driving volume. The stock closed up 12.50% with 7.5 million shares changing hands.
