Canadian stocks closed higher on Wednesday, driven by gains in Healthcare, Industrials and Telecom, but Metals and Mining bucked the trend as gold prices moved lower.

Stocks were buoyed by gains in European markets after German Chancellor Angela Merkel clinched a coalition deal with the Social Democrats about two months after emerging victorious in the country's general election.

International Minerals Corporation (IMZ.TO) was the most active share on the TSX. Today shareholders have overwhelmingly approved the plan of arrangement with Hochschild Mining plc. The stock closed up 1.4% with 4.7 million shares changing hands.
