Canada Stocks Close Higher; FOMC Spurs Stocks; Sirocco Mining Inc. Most Active

Canadian stocks closed higher on Wednesday buoyed by comments from the US Federal Reserve. All sectors were higher led by Healthcare, Financials and Metals and Mining.

The Federal Reserve finished their two day meeting on Wednesday and announced that they planned on tapering their bond purchase program by 10 billion dollars per month split evenly between treasuries and agencies. The statement that boosted equities was that rates would remain low well after unemployment rates fall below 6.5%.

BlackBerry (BB.TO) today announced a bundling agreement with LG Electronics involving both standard and virtual pre-loading (using the LG App Manager) and confirmed that BBM will also continue to be available as a free download from Android app stores, including Google Play.

Sirocco Mining Inc. (SIM.TO) was the most active share on the TSX with no fresh specific stock news driving volume. The stock closed by 2.6% with 23 million shares changing hands.
