Canadian stocks closed higher on Wednesday touching a new 2-year high; most sectors were lower led down by Healthcare.

All eyes were on the Fed at 2Pm EST, as the central bank extended its support for a slowing U.S. economy saying it will keep buying $85 billion in bonds per month for the time being. In announcing their decision, Fed officials reflected weaker economic prospects due in part to a fiscal fight in Washington that shuttered much of the government for 16 days earlier this month.

B2Gold Corp. ( BTO ) was the most active stock with no fresh specific stock news driving volume. The stock closed up 1.1% with 6 million shares changing hands.
