Canada Stocks Close at All-time High; Most Sectors Higher; Fed Drives Gains

Canada's main stock market, the Toronto Stock Exchange, gained nearly 53 points Wednesday, closing above the record closing high for the index, but shy of the all time record intra-day high. The eagerly awaited and much-hyped FOMC statement held no surprises and had little impact on market prices

Canadian markets were waiting to see if there was any suggestion that the higher than expected CPI or tension in Iraq made the Fed think that they needed to escalate or bring forward their thinking on rate hikes - but after Yellen said that the CPI had noise stocks continued to move higher.

Of commodities, gold prices ended the U.S. day session near unchanged, while WTI crude oil eased 11 cents per barrel.
