CANADA EQUITIES: BMO Talks Up The Local Equity Market - "A Surprising Star Performer Over The Past Year"

Bank of Montreal (BMO.TO, BMO) in an advance copy of its weekly 'Focus" feature article says the Canadian equity market has been a "surprising star performer" over the past year. Not only has the index flared to an all-time high, and led most of the world's major markets with a 13% gain so far in 2014, but it has also risen by roughly 3,000 points in the past year, the third largest annual advance on record, it notes.

This, BMO says, is in "staggering contrast" to the many 'Sell Canada' recommendations that were all the rage just over a year ago. BMO claims it was "conspicuously not on that bandwagon."

BMO cites six economic drivers that can help explain this "surprisingly robust" performance, and looks at whether or not they are sustainable? Separate brief stories of each of these drivers will follow this.
