Broadcom Corporation
(
BRCM
), a premier semiconductor solutions provider for wired and
wireless communications, recently introduced the BCM84128, the
world's fastest 100G CMOS transmitter PHY for long-haul, regional
and metropolitan data transport.
The BCM84128 transmitter features an aggregate data rate of 128
Gbps, supporting high-capacity optical modules while consuming
60% less power than other similar devices. With the growth in
demand for broadband applications, there is an intense need to
manage the exponential increase in traffic driven by video and
other high bandwidth multimedia applications.
Broadcom continues to drive innovation and technological
excellence across a broad range of communication end markets to
enhance device performance, cut down costs, and improve the
overall power efficiency.
According to analyst firm Dell'Oro, the market for 100 Gbps
transmitters is expected to grow approximately 140% in 2013. With
the current upgrade of networks to terabit-capacity equipment,
optical transport is expected to grow in long haul and metro
applications.
With the new CMOS process technology of 100G optical transport
and advantages of lower power and reliability, Broadcom is well
placed in the fast-growing wired and wireless communications
markets with cutting-edge solutions for a growing number of
connected users, who are demanding more content and
bandwidth.
Based in Irvine, CA, Broadcom is engaged in designing and
marketing semiconductor components of network voice, video, and
data traffic for various applications. Broadcom provides a
portfolio of system-on-a-chip (SoC) and software solutions to
manufacturers of computing and networking equipment, digital
entertainment and broadband access products, and mobile devices.
However, the company needs to be wary of its competitors, which
include formidable names such as
Juniper Networks, Inc
(
JNPR
) and
DSP Group
Inc
(
DSPG
).
Broadcom currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). One of its
competitors,
Tellabs Inc
(
TLAB
) carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
