BMC Software Inc.
(
BMC
) recently announced that it will provide its information
technology service management (ITSM) support to the State of
Connecticut for an undisclosed amount.
The state is facing challenges posed by significant fed budget
cuts. This has put a restriction on funds for IT administration. In
such a situation, the state had no other option but to search for
an easy, cost-effective IT supervision system. After evaluating
ITSM systems from key players such as
CA Inc.
(
CA
) and
Hewlett-Packard Co.
(
HPQ
), the state's administration department found BMC Software's
FootPrints solution to be suitable.
FootPrints is easy to deploy, maintain and upgrade. The solution
facilitates automated data and process integration thereby
improving overall IT operations. At a glance, the solution will
offer support in effectively managing areas such as service,
helpdesk, security and compliance, lifecycle and desktop.
With BMC FootPrints, the state will be able to provide its agencies
with a single-window IT solution. This will facilitate centralized
IT services and foster better cooperation among the agencies,
leading to improved services for the citizens
BMC FootPrints' popularity could be gauged from back-to-back
customer adoption. In July, The Ohio Department of Developmental
Disabilities and payroll service provider Cast & Crew opted for
the solution. BMC Software inherited this solution from Numara
Software, which was acquired in January 2012.
With this strategic acquisition, BMC Software has been able to
access more than 13,000 service and asset management solutions that
have enabled it to improve the services offered. Also, it will help
the company to make headway in the SaaS service desk offering to
the fast-growing small and medium business (SMB) segment in the
market going ahead.
The popularity of BMC Software's ITSM suites is growing. We are
encouraged by the continuous product launches. We also believe that
the company's growing exposure into the cloud space will prove to
be a catalyst.
However, weaker expenditure from different governments, ongoing
European economic turmoil and stiff competitive environment pose
some concerns.
Currently, BMC Software has a Zacks #2 Rank, indicating a
short-term Buy recommendation.
