Business Service Management ('BSM') solutions provider
BMC Software Inc.
) recently announced that Tennessee-based insurance carrier Unum
has implemented the BMC Control-M Workload Automation solution in
order to deliver improved information technology ('IT') services.
Aided by this new technology from BMC, the insurance company aims
to better handle its workload and manage costs effectively.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Unum is the largest disability insurance company operating
worldwide. It provides other employee benefits such as critical
illness insurance and life insurance. The carrier was trying to
automate its datacenter operations in order to ease job request
handling for its IT staff. The idea was to make the IT
infrastructure efficient and productive for the purpose of
serving its clientele better. Learning the need, the insurance
company wanted to deploy an efficient self-service workload
BMC Software's Control-M Workload Automation suite was a perfect
fit for Unum's IT infrastructure. BMC Software's workload
automation suite offers a range of capabilities required to
manage traditional job scheduling, batch service management and
workload automation. Leveraging the solution, Unum was able to
bring down supervision time for its IT staff, who in turn were
able to allot more time to other business perspectives.
Earlier, University of California System and University of
Connecticut implemented the BMC Control-M Workload Automation
solution in order to deliver improved IT services. Aided by this
new technology from BMC, the educational institutions aimed to
better handle their workload and manage costs effectively.
Foreseeing the demand for its Control-M solution, BMC Software
introduced the next iteration of Control-M (version 8) to include
features like new user interface, simplified tools and higher
throughput. The new solution will accelerate job processing time,
use lesser server space and further optimize costs.
Moreover, it is worth mentioning in this context that the proven
success of BMC's Control-M Workload Automation solution at
various enterprises has fetched recognition from the U.S. IT
). Earlier this year, Gartner positioned the suite in the Leaders
Quadrant of the 2012 "Magic Quadrant for Workload Automation".
Though European concerns persist, we remain positive about BMC's
continuous deal wins. But lackluster third quarter 2013 results,
lowered fiscal 2013 guidance and a weak booking trend keeps us
bearish on the stock.
Currently, BMC Software has a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). Not all
software stocks are performing as badly as BMC.
) have a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) and are worth buying.
