Royal Gold (RGLD, RGL.TO) shares are slightly lower, down 0.2% in early trading, reacting to Wednesday's confirmation by Barrick Gold ( ABX ) that authorities have halted construction work on the Chilean side of the Pascua-Lama project, following complaints that the project is causing environmental damage. Work on the Argentinian side of the project continues.

ABX shares closed down 8.4% on Wednesday, following the announcement. This morning, they are staging a bit of a recovery and are up 0.78%.

Royal Gold is part owner of the Pascua-Lama project. Shares of another owner, Silver Wheaton (SLW, SLW.TO) were under pressure earlier in the session but are now up 0.04%.
