Shares of Ball Corporation ( BLL ) rose nearly 1.6% on Oct 10 on the introduction of its Matte & Gloss printing technology for impact extruded aerosol cans and beverage bottles. The products were displayed at the 28th FEA International Aerosol Congress in Madrid.

The Matte & Gloss technology features tactile, pearlescent and hot stamping capabilities. This exclusive innovation in Ball Corp.'s printing line is now available on its impact extruded aerosol cans and beverage bottles.

The printing process allows customers to combine both effects on the same can. The combination will enhance a product's shelf appeal through view and touch and attract more customers.

Matte & Gloss can be applied to any design or color for a contrast effect. The gloss reflects light and the matte offers a subdued soft look. This is in sync with Ball's continued innovation of industry-leading solutions.

Apart from its innovations, Ball Corp. is also focusing on cost containment in Europe. The benefits of these cost cutting measures are expected to be realized in 2014 and 2015.

Ball Corp., which belongs to the containers and packaging industry along with EveryWare Global, Inc. ( EVRY ) and Silgan Holdings Inc. ( SLGN ), will continue to benefit from product launches, expansion into emerging markets and strong backlog in its aerospace and technologies segment. However, weak economic condition in Europe and pricing pressure in China will act as headwinds.

Broomfield, CO-based Ball Corp. is a manufacturer of metal and plastic packaging, primarily for beverages and food. It also supplies aerospace and other technologies and services to government and commercial customers.

Ball Corp. currently has a short-term Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Mobile Mini, Inc. ( MINI ) also belongs to the same industry and holds a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
