(RTTNews.com) - China's state-owned national television broadcaster called a location-tracking function of Apple Inc.'s ( AAPL ) iPhone "a national security concern," according to media reports on Friday.

The reports said that China Central Television criticized the "frequent locations" function in Apple's iO7 mobile operating system, which tracks and records the time and location of the owner's movements.

Quoting researchers, the CCTV said that those with access to those data points could gain knowledge of the broader situation in China or "even state secrets."

Apple, Microsoft Corp. ( MSFT ), Google Inc. (GOOG, GOOGL) and Facebook Inc. ( FB ) are among U.S. companies criticized by state-run media amid an escalating spat over cyberspying and hacking allegations. The tensions follow indictments by U.S. prosecutors of five Chinese military officers for allegedly hacking into the computers of American companies and last year's revelations by former security contractor Edward Snowden of a National Security Agency spying program.
