American equity markets mixed at opening Friday

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The US Stock market experienced a negative opening as investors grapple a tranche of employment data and indicators in the United States during the month of December. In the United States, the crucial Nonfarm Payrolls (December) were reported at 155K, against a consensus of 150K. Moreover, the Unemployment rate has climbed to 7.8% in the month of December, relative to expectations of 7.7%. Finally, Average Hourly Earnings, (MoM) climbed +0.3 in December, against estimates of +0.2%.

Beginning with the indices and composites, the NASDAQ fell -0.01% as it settles in region of 3100.14, down -0.16 points in these moments. In addition, the S&P 500 is trading in positive territory, operating at 1460.21, gaining +1.32 points or +0.09% at the time of writing. Finally, the Dow Jones has moved higher at the opening as well, trading in the zone of 13401.65, presently +0.08% after an ascent of +10.29 points.

Sectors are all mixed at the opening, however the Technology and Basic Materials sectors have distinguished themselves as the losers thus far, contracting -0.32% and -0.20% respectively. In other news, the price of crude has settled above USD $92.85 today, moving -0.07%.
